Man Charged In Fatal Burger King Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― An 18-year-old man has been charged with the September shooting death of another 18-year-old at a north Minneapolis Burger King.

Denell Ray Malone Jr., of Minneapolis, is accused of killing Haywood J. Eaton and injuring another juvenile boy on Sept. 27. The shooting happened at the Burger King on the corner of Broadway and Bryant Avenues North.

According to the criminal complaint, police said Malone was sitting in the passenger seat of an SUV at the Burger King that afternoon.

A group pulled up to the SUV and got out. A man allegedly confronted the driver of the SUV. The two had previously been in a relationship and the man accused the driver of taking the car without permission.

A fight broke out between the two groups and, in the scuffle, Malone shot his revolver four times.

Eaton was killed at the scene. Police say he had been shot twice.

The boy who was also shot was taken to North Memorial Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses helped police identify Malone as the gunman. He is charged with second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder.
