Man Sentenced In Largest Dakota Co. Pot Bust Ever

HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) ― A Burnsville, Minn. was sentenced to 120 months in prison for with what was called the largest amount of marijuana ever seized in connection with a Dakota County prosecution.

The sentenced handed Jamie Dalton, 32, was actually an upward departure from standard guidelines, due to the extraordinary amount of drugs involved.

In April 2007, a 57-year-old man was arrested in Arizona for attempting to transport 350 pounds of marijuana, carrying a street value over $700,000.

The man told authorities he was intending to deliver the stash to Dalton, and had done so three times previously. He said he had an arrangement with Dalton to pay back the "considerable amount" his son owed Dalton in drug-related debts.

"The illegal production and distribution of marijuana is a significant problem in the Twin Cities. We are very pleased to have brought to justice one of the major distributors in this illegal drug trade," said Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom.

According to Backstrom, Dalton described himself as the "money man" behind the drug distribution ring.
