Autopsy: Robbery Suspect Killed Self

ST. PAUL (WCCO) ― A preliminary autopsy found that a Twin Cities robbery suspect involved in a shootout with officers in northern Minnesota died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the St. Louis County Medical Examiner, 38-year-old Quincy A. Pederson shot himself on Tuesday after authorities found him driving a stolen vehicle outside Grand Marais. He suffered no other gunshot wounds.

Pederson lost control of his vehicle during the chase with Cook County sheriff's deputies. Authorities said a brief confrontation took place when gunshots were fired.

Four officers from the Cook County sheriff's office and the Minnesota State Patrol were put on standard paid administrative leave after the incident.

Pederson was wanted for allegedly robbing a Subway restaurant in North St. Paul, then firing shots at a pursuing Maplewood police officer last week.

Toxicology reports on Pederson are pending.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is continuing to investigate the incident, which they say could take four to six weeks.
