Man Accused Of Sex Assault On Child At Wal-Mart

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (WCCO) ― A Minnesota father is accused of sexually touching someone else's child. Police said Brian Baker of St. Francis kissed and molested a girl in the toy aisle of a Wal-Mart in Coon Rapids.

The store was busy last Friday night when a 7-year-old girl and her 8-year-old sister went to check out toys one aisle away from their mother. Baker was watching and according to deputies was ready to attack.

"He kind of positioned himself next to her, and molested her, and kissed her," said Lt. Paul Sommer of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said Baker unzipped the 7-year-old girl's pants and touched her. Surveillance cameras didn't capture the attack but they do show a man who looks like Baker running from the store through the parking lot into a maroon minivan.

Court documents said Baker confessed to what happened to a church elder. That individual told Baker he is a "mandatory reporter" and would have to call police. Mandatory reporters include teachers, counselors and church personnel who are required under state law to report any suspected abuse.

That church elder told Anoka County deputies that he had counseled Baker through a divorce and financial problems. The elder brought Baker to the Anoka County Jail on Sunday where Baker surrendered.

On Tuesday night, Baker was still in jail. He had sole custody of his two children, a 10-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl. Deputies say they are now in protective custody and are staying with their grandmother.

According to authorities, Baker has no criminal history. He now faces a criminal sexual conduct charge that could mean 25 years in prison if he's found guilty.
