Man Arrested In Alleged Armed Credit Union Robbery

ST. PAUL (WCCO) ― A man has been arrested in connection with a South St. Paul armed robbery.

Minneapolis FBI said Steven Lee Olson, 47, of South St. Paul allegedly robbed the Wakota Federal Credit Union around 5 p.m., Friday at 1151 Southview Boulevard.

Police say Olson approached tellers, demanding cash, with a black handgun. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, he left in a white Dodge Intrepid.

South St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights and West St. Paul police officers located the vehicle and stopped Olson at Dale and Syndicate in South St. Paul.

Olson exited the car and attempted to flee on foot, according to police.

Police caught up with Olson and arrested him. A search of his vehicle yielded a black toy gun, cash and clothing matching the description of the robber.

Olson has been charged with one count of bank robbery. Olson is believed to be responsible for several other recent area bank robberies. He is scheduled for a detention hearing on Tuesday.
