Authorities ID Suspect In 2005 Woman's Murder
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (WCCO) ―
Rice County authorities have a man in custody in connection to the murder of Laura DeMeules, a single mother of three who was killed in November 2005.
According to the Rice County Sheriff's Office, after a lengthy and complex investigation the suspect was identified on Jan. 11.
DeMeules' body was found Nov. 6, 2005 along a gravel road about a mile from Interstate 35 and Highway 19 in rural Northfield. Prior to her murder DeMeules was living in south Minneapolis and she was last seen near 21st Avenue and Lake Street.
The case is still under investigation by Rice County and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The suspect is currently incarcerated in the Rice County Jail on an unrelated conviction.
The Rice County Attorney's Office is reviewing the investigation reports and is expected file charges in the near future.
DeMeules was attempting to turn her life around after a misspent youth filled with drugs and prostitution.
She was at a party with acquaintances before she disappeared and before her killer dumped her body in a secluded wooded area about a quarter-mile from Interstate 35.
