Wis. Judge Hears Text-Message Arguments

SIREN, Wis. (AP) ― A judge says he will rule later on how many text messages will be allowed as evidence in the trial of a Minneapolis firefighter accused of killing his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend in northwestern Wisconsin.

Kyle Lee Huggett, 32, of Danbury, is charged with second-degree intentional homicide in the Jan. 20 death of 29-year-old John Peach.

Prosecutors say Huggett shot Peach after Peach broke through the front door of the rural home of the woman Huggett was dating after the two men exchanged various text messages.

Court officials say that during a motions hearing Wednesday, Barron County Circuit Judge James Babbitt heard arguments on the text-message evidence and took them under advisement.

Huggett's four-day trial is set to start March 2.
