Charges: Knights Of Columbus Worker Embezzled $60K

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) ― An employee for the Knights of Columbus has been charged with embezzling $64,000 from her employer over the course of a year and a half.

The employee, 49-year-old Darcella Lee Lacquay, of Bloomington, was responsible for payroll with the Knights of Columbus in Bloomington, according to charges filed in Hennepin County.

An officer at the organization noticed several forged checks in his name. All checks were made to look like payments to Lacquay, who has been convicted of theft and fraud three times in the past.

The officer alerted authorities in July. While the officer began to track the amounts allegedly embezzled, Lacquay was fired.

The following day, she admitted to Bloomington Police that she had forged checks to make house payments and to support her gambling addiction.

Police said she admitted to forging about 40 checks, but didn't know the total amount she'd taken.

By that point, the Knights of Columbus officer who first noticed the forged checks had counted approximately 60 illegal transactions. In August, the officer said the grand total embezzled by Lacquay was $64,888.

Lacquay has been charged with two felony counts of theft by swindle.
