'The Impaler' Pleads Guilty To E-Mail Harassment

ROCHESTER, Minn. (WCCO) ― A man who ran for Minnesota governor as "The Impaler" under what he called the Vampyres, Witches and Pagans ticket pleaded guilty to two counts of harassment through use of mail.

Jonathan Albert Sharkey, 44, was accused of sending harassing e-mails to a Rochester teenager in 2007.

A 15-year-old girl told police she sent an e-mail message of political support to Sharkey's MySpace page and that they began dating online. She told police she tried to end it within two weeks, but he wouldn't leave her alone.

While Sharkey pleaded guilty to those two counts of harassment, charges of coercion to inflict bodily harm and coercion to expose a secret have been dismissed.

Some e-mails in police reports threatened the girl's family and friends with harm, including decapitation.

His sentence of 180 days in jail is considered satisfied. But he'll stay in custody pending extradition to Indiana to face two felony charges.

Sharkey ran for governor in 2006 and said he was a 2008 presidential candidate.
