Home Allegedly Burglarized, Then Set Ablaze

BRITT, Minn. (WCCO) ― A home was reportedly burglarized and then set on fire around 10:32 p.m. Saturday in St. Louis County, according to the sheriff's department.

The incident occurred on the 7400-block of Britt Bypass Road, approximately 1.5 miles northwest from Virginia, Minn. The residents of the home, Elizabeth and Robert Stanford, were not in the home when it started on fire.

There were no injuries but the residence sustained extensive damage. The Stanfords are being temporarily relocated with assistance from the Red Cross.

The two told police they had been away from the home and upon their return, found their home on fire and called 911.

The incident remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Fire Marshall's Office. The fire is being considered arson.
