Police in a Minnesota college town are trying to figure out who wrote hateful messages on students' cars.
A student sent WCCO a picture of graffiti found in a parking lot at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. Investigators say someone sprayed similar messages, and some that were worse, on a bunch of cars two weekends ago.
A college spokesperson said that a total of nine cars were vandalized using white chalk with racial and other hateful messages early Nov. 1. Seven of the cars were student cars while two were university vehicles, one of which that was clearly marked as a college vehicle.
Gwen Freed, V.P. for Marketing and Communication, said that Gustavus is "shocked and upset" over the hateful messages and say it's "never acceptable to be violated in this way."
School officials are cooperating with police and focusing on the students and curriculum. The Gustavus Student Senate recently passed a resolution against hateful messages and speech like what was seen on Nov. 1.
