2 Sentenced For $41K In Fradulent Wal-Mart Returns

WILLMAR, Minn. (AP) ― Sentencing has been completed for two women who made more than $41,000 in fraudulent merchandise exchanges at the Willmar Wal-Mart.

Kandiyohi County Attorney Boyd Beccue said Wal-Mart employee Veronica Menchaca of Clara City and former employee Michelle Stomberg of Pennock worked as a team to make more than 700 fraudulent returns last January.

Beccue said Menchaca would work at the customer service counter while Stomberg would make the returns. Security cameras captured the transactions on tape, and Wal-Mart officials presented the evidence to authorities.

Menchaca was sentenced in December to 75 days in jail, put on 10 years probation and was ordered to pay $41,000 in restitution. Stomberg was given a similar sentence this week, earlier except her restitution was $13,000.
