Man Charged With Killing Wife, Arson

(WCCO)

A Columbia Heights man has been charged with killing his wife and setting his house on fire last week.

Arthur Anthony Torgesen, 64, is charged with second degree murder and arson.

The criminal complaint says he did it because they were having financial problems.

Police said last Friday morning Torgesen stabbed his wife Sherry Harnden.

Torgensen told police he then set the bedroom on fire and was going to kill himself, but the fire got too hot and he ran out.

The criminal complaint also said that a friend of the couple said that Torgensen had made previous statements about wanting to kill himself and burn down the house.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison.
