Teens Not Behind Wheel Charged For Fatal Crash

(WCCO) Police say a night of drinking by a group of Minnesota high-schoolers ended in a car crash that killed a woman.

Shirmatie Ramoutar-Hedberg, a 43-year-old mother of three, was killed the morning after Easter when 17-year-old Drew Anderson hit the car she was riding in head-on. The driver of that car, 25-year-old Ger Vang, was critically injured.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on County Road 19 in Albertville as Ramoutar-Hedberg and Vang were on their way to work.

According to the criminal charges, Anderson was at a high school party in St. Michael that night. He told police he'd been drinking beer, Ron Diaz and four to five Windsor and Cokes. Friends told police Anderson "was stumbling around", "couldn't walk" and didn't know where he was. He left the party between 4 and 4:30 a.m.

The Wright County Sheriff's Office said Anderson crossed a median into oncoming traffic before he hit Vang's car. Anderson was taken to the hospital where his blood alcohol level was 0.176. He was charged with criminal vehicular homicide.

Three other teens were also charged with supplying the alcohol to Anderson. Two were juveniles and the third was 18-year-old Brent Holland. Holland was nowhere near the crash site, but did tell police he brought the Windsor to the party.

Vang has been upgraded to fair condition but is still in intensive care. Ramoutar-Hedberg's funeral was on Friday.
