Man Arrested After 5-Hour Standoff In The Woods

EAST BETHEL, Minn. (WCCO) ― Police arrested a man in East Bethel, Minn. late Wednesday evening after a five-hour standoff in the woods.

Authorities were called to the home on Jackson Street Northeast at about 6:15 p.m. on reports of a man firing gunshots inside his home.

The man, David Dean Anderson, 48, left his house with several guns and headed into the woods. Two nearby homes and Our Savior Lutheran Church were evacuated.

Officers said at one point during the standoff, Anderson fired his weapon in the direction of a media helicopter.

After several hours, Police said he finally walked out of the woods at about 11:15 p.m. and was arrested by a SWAT officer. Police said they didn't think he was leaving the woods to surrender.

Criminal charges are still pending. No one was injured in the incident.
