Man Sentenced For Ripping Head Off Duck In Hotel
ST. PAUL (WCCO) ―
A Ramsey County judge granted a stay of imposition to a Denver man after he ripped the head off a live, tame duck last fall.
Scott D. Clark pleaded guilty to felony animal cruelty in January.
A stay of imposition would allow Clark's prison sentence to be delayed provided he complies with conditions of the court.
The judge ordered Clark to serve 21 days in a workhouse and also perform 80 hours of community service. He will additionally have to pay a $1,000 fine and complete a chemical dependency treatment program.
The incident happened at the Embassy Suites in downtown St. Paul on Sept. 22. Clark, who was an auditor with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services at the time, was in town on business. Clark ripped the head off the duck, which was kept in an ornamental pool in the hotel lobby.
Police said Clark was drunk at the time of the incident.
After he pleaded guilty, Clark said he was "extremely sorry" and said he had never hurt and animal before.
After the incident, he spent four days in jail and lost his job.
