The Minnesota Department of Public Safety wants drivers who have had too much to drink to stay out from behind the wheel this year.
The department said about 400 Minnesota law enforcement agencies will participate in enhanced DWI patrols during the holiday season.
December is one of the deadliest months for impaired driving in Minnesota. In the last three Decembers, 41 motorists were killed in alcohol-related crashes and another 10,553 were arrested for DWI.
More than 500,000 Minnesotans have a DWI on record, and that number will surely rise this month during the DWI enforcement campaign.
And that's fine with Public Safety Commissioner Michael Campion, who said there is no greater gift to Minnesotans that putting impaired drivers in jail.
