Drowning Man Rescued, Arrested In St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) ― A drowning man in St. Cloud went from being saved to under arrest.

Police were called early Thursday to the University Bridge, when a man was struggling to stay afloat in the Mississippi River. The victim was in the middle of the river between the bridge and a dam.

Two police officers swam to the victim, then brought him back to shore. The St. Cloud Fire Department helped get the man out of the water.

The 21-year-old Albany man was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, including extreme intoxication.

Police say he was then arrested on an outstanding felony warrant and two misdemeanor warrants.
