Wife Of Injured Deputy Not Happy With Plea Bargain

(WCCO) The wife of a sheriff's deputy, who was shot in the line of duty, isn't too happy about a plea bargain for one of the suspects.

Emily Dewey is angry that the county attorney kept her out of the loop on the deal.

Her husband, Deputy Chris Dewey was shot four months ago. He's still recovering, doing rehabilitation at a hospital in Colorado.

Chris Dewey was shot in the head after a standoff with two men at a home in Mahnomen.

The Detroit Lakes Tribune said one of those men just struck a plea deal with prosecutors.

According to the paper, Daniel Vernier pleaded guilty to one charge in exchange for getting more than a dozen more serious charges against him dropped.

He also agreed to testify against the alleged gunman, Thomas Fairbanks.

Deputy Dewey's wife Emily updated her husband's CaringBridge page Thursday night.

She said she talked to the county attorney "a day late and a dollar short."

Emily said she's not quite so upset about the plea bargain, but she would've liked a harsher sentence.
