Craigslist Murder Case In Court

(WCCO) The man accused of using Craigslist to commit murder made his first court appearance Friday.

Michael Anderson is accused of luring Katherine Olson to his home in Savage by advertising a nanny job on the Web site Craigslist.com.

He is charged with shooting her in the back.

Friday's hearing was mostly about things like what DNA evidence will be allowed and if bail will be reduced.

The judge ruled bail will stay at $1 million for 19-year-old Anderson.

The defense requested to give Anderson a polygraph test that will not be admissible in court unless the defense wants it to be.

Anderson's parents were back at the Scott County Courthouse for his first appearance.

Anderson lived with his parents and is accused of killing Olson in his bedroom on Oct. 26.

Right now Anderson is charged with second degree murder. The prosecution is going to ask for a grand jury so it can be raised to first degree murder.

"We will present evidence that law enforcement ... has gathered and it will be the grand jury's decision," said Pat Ciliberto, the Scott County Attorney.

"There's been an amazing rush to judgment in this case. The police, the prosecution, the media only know a portion of facts in this case," said Alan Margoles, the defense attorney.

The grand jury trial is set to begin Nov. 27.

Police said Olson was not sexually assaulted and robbery does not appear to be a motive.

Anderson has told police his friend killed Olson because he thought it would be funny.

Olson's parents, Rolf and Nancy, issued a statement Friday asking their daughter be remembered as the vivacious and compassionate young woman she was. They want her remembered as a person who lived a good life, not as a victim.
