Man Convicted On Charges Of Shooting Mpls. Officer
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ―
An Oakdale man faces decades in prison after being convicted on six counts related to the attempted murder of a Minneapolis police officer in November.
Hennepin County District Judge William Koch is scheduled to sentence 34-year-old Israel Lee Anderson on June 10 for shooting Officer Dan Grosland and another man.
He was found guilty Wednesday of five counts, including two counts of attempted second-degree intentional murder and three counts of first-degree assault.
Prosecutors say Grosland and another officer were on duty and in uniform on Nove. 23 when they moved to break up a fight in a parking lot.
The officer said they heard four gunshots. Grosland felt pain in his left foot and fell. Another man was hit in the buttocks by a bullet.
Another officer reported seeing Anderson holding a handgun and fire two more shots in the direction of the crowd and the officers. Anderson then ran, but was arrested.
Anderson's attorney, Earl Gray, had no comment after his client was convicted Wednesday.
Grosland has returned to work and is performing light duty. His recovery remains uncertain.
