Car Chase Suspect Shot By Police In Milaca

MILACA, Minn. (AP) ― Authorities say a man is hospitalized at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale after being shot by officers following a chase between Waite Park and Milaca that involved eight law enforcement agencies.

The State Patrol says a driver suspected of impaired driving fled Waite Park police about 3:30 p.m. Monday, prompting a chase that ended on Highway 23 near Milaca.

The patrol says the chase also involved the Mille Lacs Tribal Police, St. Joseph and St. Cloud police and sheriff's deputies from Benton, Mille Lacs and Stearns counties.

A Minnesota State Patrol trooper used a squad car to spin out the suspect's vehicle. During the arrest, the suspect was shot then flown to North Memorial Medical Center.

The patrol says no law enforcement officers were hurt.

After the shooting, six officers were put on routine administrative leave -- four from the State Patrol and two from the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say police are still investigating whether the driver was a part of a home invasion earlier the same day at a home on Lake Koronis near Paynesville.
