Woman Sentenced To 5 Years In Campground Death

OLIVIA, Minn. (WCCO) ― A Willmar woman will serve more than four years in prison for causing the death of a baby and injuring his mother while they were camping at a Renville County park.

Nicolle Prechel backed over their tent at Beaver Falls Park on July 5, killing 3-month-old Whyatt Sander and injuring his mother, 21-year-old Sheena Hinshaw.

Prechel was convicted of one felony count of criminal vehicular homicide and one gross misdemeanor count of criminal vehicular operation.

Prosecutors said Prechel's blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit when her van struck Sander's tent.
