Woman Pleads Guilty In Campground Death

OLIVIA, Minn. (AP) ― A Willmar woman has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a baby and injuring his mother while they were camping at a Renville County park.

Nicolle Prechel backed over their tent at Beaver Falls Park July 5, killing 3-month-old Whyatt Sander and injuring his mother, 21-year-old Sheena Hinshaw.

Prechel entered the pleas as part of an agreement with prosecutors. She pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide for Sander's death and to causing bodily harm while under the influence for the injuries to his mother. Four other charges were dismissed in court Monday.

Sentencing is set for Nov. 12.

Prosecutors said Prechel's blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit when her van struck Sander's tent.
