Police say a Minneapolis dad tackled Brian Swearegene and held him until officers arrived on the scene by 27th and Pillsbury Avenue. He has been charged with first-degree burglary.
Hennepin County
A burglar who broke into a child's bedroom and was caught by the father will spend 180 days in the Hennepin County workhouse for what he did.
Brian Swearegene, 21, broke into the family's home in July on the 2700 block of Pillsbury Avenue but before he could do anything, he was tackled by the father, Steve Schirber, who held him down until police could arrive.
Swearegene pleaded guilty to one felony count of first degree burglary and was sentenced Tuesday. He will also be on probation for four years.
Schirber said when he went to check on their 4-year-old son and instead saw Swearegene standing there, decision making went out the window and he relied on instinct.
