Driver In Fatal Buffalo Crash Charged

(WCCO) Police say the driver involved in a crash that killed a 17-year-old Brooklyn Center boy was driving the wrong way with his lights turned off. And they believe he had been drinking.

The Wright County Sheriff's office said Jon Kramnic was killed after his car collided with a pickup driver on County Road 35 near Jamison Avenue in St. Michael, Minn.

The driver of the pickup, 44-year-old Todd Lifto of St. Michael, was taken to Mercy Hospital by ambulance, where he was originally listed in critical condition. He is out of the hospital and now in custody, facing criminal vehicular homicide charges.

Lifto was arrested twice in the last four years for suspicion of drunken driving, most recently in September.

Students at Buffalo Senior High School say Kramnic was a scholar and an athlete.

Kramnic's uncle said he is outraged by what happened, but is happy there are charges.

Blood tests are not back yet on Lifto.
