A man is facing charges relating to endangering a child's safety after he instructed his 9-year-old son to start up a vehicle, which the boy then lost control of and crashed into two parked vehicles on Oct. 31.
Chaska police officers responded to the three car property damage accident in a parking lot on Crosstown Boulevard, where the young child was unsupervised and sitting in a vehicle that caused significant damage to two other vehicles.
Police say the child started the vehicle and accidentally shifted the van into gear and lost control.
There were no injuries. The father of the 9-year-old boy, Michael Scherbing, admitted to police that he instructed him to start the vehicle unsupervised. The father then yelled at police and stated he would continue allowing his son to start his vehicle against the orders of officers.
