Wis. Man Arrested On Minn. Bigamy Charge

MANTORVILLE, Minn. (AP) ― The Dodge County sheriff says a 39-year-old Racine, Wisconsin, man is in custody on a rare bigamy charge from Minnesota.

Sheriff Gary Thompson says Michael Lee Henderson has been arrested in his hometown of Racine on felony warrant out of Minnesota.

The sheriff said Henderson had been told by the county attorney's office that he had until 11 a.m. Monday to contact the courts or he would be arrested.

The sheriff says Henderson will remain in custody as the extradition process begins.

A warrant was issued for Henderson's arrest last week after his first wife contacted Minnesota authorities when she learned that he had allegedly married again.

The criminal complaint alleges Henderson married his first wife in Wisconsin in 1995, then later met a woman in Rochester and married her in Mantorville last year.

In Minnesota, bigamy is punishable by prison time and hefty fines.
