Babysitter Charged With Dangling Baby From Window

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― A babysitter was arrested for dangling a baby out of a second-story window while locking another young girl out on top of a sloped roof last week, police said.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident happened on the 2900 block of Park Avenue South in Minneapolis.

Vanessa Sparks, 20, has been charged with two counts of child endangerment, which is considered a gross misdemeanor.

Police said Sparks admitted to locking the 6-year-old girl on the roof for about eight minutes and to dangling the 11-month-old baby from the window. She acknowledged that both would have been injured if they had fallen.

The roof where the girl was allegedly locked out is about 15 feet from the ground with a 45-degree slant. The criminal complaint noted there were landscaping rocks on the ground below.

Officers at the scene said the 6-year-old girl was shaking and crying when they arrived.

Sparks is currently in custody.
