Convicted Murderer Accused In Motel Attack

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (AP) ― A man convicted of murder in Minnesota is accused in an attack and armed robbery at a Chippewa Falls motel.

Police say 38-year-old Arthur Simmons of Altoona robbed the Indianhead Motel July 24. Simmons is accused of attacking two men at the motel with a metal pipe or similar object.

Two women were also arrested for their possible role in the crime and police are looking for a second man.

Simmons is being held in the Chippewa County Jail on $25,000 bond.
Simmons was convicted of second-degree murder in Minnesota in 1986.

Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension records show he was found guilty in adult court of killing James Strain in a robbery and shooting and sentenced to nine years in prison.
