Suspect Held In Woman's Death In Albert Lea

ALBERT LEA, Minn. (WCCO) ― Albert Lea Police say a Minnesota man ordered to stay away from his ex-girlfriend killed her.

Police say 37-year-old Chad Gulbertson went to the police department Sunday morning and said he may have killed his girlfriend.

Albert Lea Police Chief Dwaine Winkels said officers found the body of 38-year-old Jody Morrow in her mobile home. Winkels described her as "bludgeoned to death." Investigators aren't saying what kind of weapon may have been used.

Gulbertson and Morrow had lived together. Then in mid-May, she got a restraining order against him, according to police.

Neighbor and friend Mary Ann Jensen sews to keep her mind off Morrow's tragic death.

"She had a hard time, she was disabled but she kept on going," said Jensen.

According to police, they have visited the trailer where Morrow and Gulbertson lived together until recently. Police say Morrow had an order of protection against Gulbertson.

Rose Olmsted is the coordinator of the Freeborn County Crime Victim Crisis Center.

"The most dangerous time for victims in situations of domestic abuse is after an order of protection is served," she said.

Gulbertson is behind bars inside the Freeborn County Jail.

Freeborn County Attorney Craig Nelson said charges will be filed once his office has received reports of the incident, determine how Morrow died and if a weapon was used to kill her.
