A jury has returned a guilty verdict for a man charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of a Somali man outside Village Market Mall last September.
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office reported that after a day of deliberation, the jury Friday found Hassan Abdillahi of Richfield guilty. Sentencing is scheduled July 21.
A criminal complaint said a witness told police Abdillahi had said he was going to kill Abdishakur Adan Hassan in retaliation for the shooting death in April of Abdillahi's cousin.
Abdillahi allegedly told the witness his cousin was killed by one of Hassan's friends -- but Abdillahi believed the friend fled to Kenya so Abdillahi would kill Hassan instead.
Hassan was shot in the chest and died Sept. 29.
