'Tis the Season For Last-Minute Shopping

(WCCO) The shopping season is just beginning for millions of procrastinators. We're talking about the last minute shoppers.

According to the National retailers association, 47 percent of shoppers surveyed said they were done with this year's holiday shopping by the second week of December.

About 67 percent of those in the study said they are willing to take desperate measures, like parking illegally, paying exorbitant shipping fees or calling in sick to work just to finish holiday shopping.

Folks we talked with said it's worth waiting till the last minute.

Two days before Christmas, there's not a present in sight. If you head out to the mall you might just have to fight.

"Pretty frustrating," said Britany, a last minute shopper.

"It could be a little bit better, if people would park a little straighter," said Britt Nemth.

Ed Rankin also echoed the same thing.

"(In the parking lot) you can't see the lines, so it's not good. Ya know, you kind of guess where you're gonna park and some people didn't guess correctly," he said.

Slipping and sliding their way into the mall some last minute shoppers are having a ball.

"I do it all the time," said Traci Martineau.

"I probably got about eight to 10 to shop for -- not bad right?" said Nikole Simpson, who flew in from Korea. "I have a list and I'm trying to knock 'em out -- just trying to be efficient with the little time I have."

Phillip New waited and said he did it on purpose.

"I just come late ... I just think I just work well under pressure," he said, "I've got two Poinsettias -- two for $15. Very good deal."

Twinkling lights and sale signs galore. Now is their time to hit the store.

"My strategy is to go to a store and find what I can as quick as I can. Get it wrapped and go home," said Bob Thomas.

Some of the shoppers come prepared with a list in hand. If you're looking for last minute tips you might ask a man.

"I got a list, so you put some thought into it beforehand, and then you finally pull the trigger and go to the mall, walk around and see what jumps out at you," said Ed Rankin.
