The cool weather Saturday wasn't enough to keep some folks from stocking up on all things fresh. The St. Paul and Minneapolis Farmers Markets kicked off their spring season.
"We already stopped once and this is our second trip back," said a woman with a trunk full of petunias.
"It's extremely tasty," said a boy eating corn on the cob.
The main Minneapolis Farmers Market on Lyndale Avenue showed off its stuff.
"The people are fun and friendly and everybody's just glad to be out after a long, cold winter," said one man.
Saturday's cool weather cut down on the crowd, but it couldn't stop some family traditions.
Once the market opens up on a regular basis, my family and I, we come down at least one day out of the weekend to just check it out and get some corn and get brats and just buy a whole bunch of different stuff," said Chris Lindholm from Burnsville.
Shoppers in St. Paul found a couple of new organic growers, fresh fish and cheeses. Its market season started Saturday too.
"Last year at this time it was snowing, so we're pleasantly surprised to see the sun out. As you can see some of the people are coming down now. I think they're getting anxious for spring to be in full swing," said Jack Gerten with the St. Paul Farmers Market.
Things got off to a chilly start, but before long there were no empty stomachs in sight.
"One loaded brat for the cameraman," said one vendor, handing it to WCCO-TV photographer Brad Earley.
The Minneapolis Farmers Market is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. until mid-Nov.
The St. Paul market on the corner of 5th Street and Wall Street will be open on Saturdays from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
