Cold Case: The 2 Susans In Highland Park

(WCCO) It will be 25 years on May 17 since a young woman named Susan was found murdered in St. Paul. Two years later, on the same date in 1985, another victim also named Susan was killed. Both victims were strangled and sexually assaulted.

Fearing a serial killer could be targeting females named Susan, for years, police staked out the areas where the victims were last seen and later found.

Detectives aren't sure if the killer died or was in prison for another crime since no similar crimes involving Susans happened again in St. Paul.

St. Paul police will be creating a cold case section in their homicide unit. The murders of Susan Petersen and Susan Rheineck will be among the more than 140 cases getting a fresh look.

The number for their tip line if you have information on any unsolved St. Paul murders is 651-266-5956.
