Valleyfair Owner: Attendance Up At Theme Parks

SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) ― Amusement park operator Cedar Fair says more visitors are going through the gates at its parks around the country.

The Ohio-based company, which owns Valleyfair in Minnesota, said Tuesday that attendance is up 3 percent over last year.

North America's third-largest amusement park chain reports that revenues also are up 3 percent while spending inside its parks has remained flat.

Cedar Fair operates six outdoor water parks and 12 amusement parks, including Cedar Point and Kings Island in Ohio.

Excluding Geauga Lake amusement park near Cleveland which closed at the end of 2007, Cedar Fair says it saw the number of visitors rise by nearly 1 million people.

Cedar Fair chairman Richard Kinzel says new rides and good weather helped draw more guests this year.
