NWA Says Little To Lawmakers About Possible Merger

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Northwest Airlines isn't telling Minnesota lawmakers much about a potential merger with Delta Air Lines.

Airline executives submitted written testimony for a Senate hearing Monday afternoon.

Lawmakers are concerned about the effect of such a merger on Minnesota, where Northwest has a hub and headquarters.

A letter from Northwest Senior Vice President Richard Hirst said the airline's objective is the "long-term survival of the hub at Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport and the Minnesota jobs we support."

But Hirst said Northwest can't comment on speculation about a merger.
His letter makes no mention of the airline's Eagan headquarters, which employs 1,000 people.

Northwest has received hundreds of millions of dollars in loans and airport concessions in exchange for promising to keep the hub and headquarters in Minnesota.
