Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. has reached a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers, averting a strike at some taconite mines in northeastern Minnesota.
Cleveland-Cliffs sent out a notice Sunday night announcing the tentative agreement on a four-year deal.
The new contract covers about 2,300 workers at United Taconite Co. in Eveleth, Hibbing Taconite Co. in Hibbing, and Empire and Tilden mines in Michigan.
Because the agreement must still be approved by workers and Cleveland-Cliffs board, the terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
