It's been two years since the Interstate 35W bridge unexpectedly collapsed into the Mississippi River.
Saturday's anniversary of the Aug. 1, 2007 collapse will pass without much fanfare. Gov. Tim Pawlenty has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset. Pawlenty and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak are asking Minnesotans to observe a moment of silence at 6:05 p.m., the exact moment two years earlier of the collapse.
Thirteen people were killed and 145 injured in the collapse, which happened during rush hour while the bridge was full of vehicles. Federal investigators have since ruled the collapse was caused in flaws to the bridge's original design.
The replacement bridge has been up and running since last September.
-------
The replacement bridge opened less than 14 months after the collapse of the old bridge.
