Ron Trenda

Ron Trenda returned to WCCO-TV in July 2007 after a five-year stint at another local TV station. You might also remember him occasionally filling in as a weather anchor on WCCO from 1998 to 2001.

Ron grew up in the small town of Hopkins, Minn. He's always loved the outdoors, and remembers playing lots of baseball, basketball and football with his brothers and neighbor kids.

Ron soon became fascinated by our Minnesota weather, and remembers seeing and hearing "thundersnow" for the first time. He was also puzzled by a strong thunderstorm that drenched the street in front of his parents' house, but didn't drop any rain just a few feet away.

Ron attended the University of Minnesota for core courses in math and science, and then transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to obtain his Meteorology degree.

He has been forecasting Minnesota weather for over 25 years, and has been awarded the American Meteorological Society's Seal of Approval for Television and Radio.

Ron has presented the weather on Twin Cities radio and TV stations and has also operated a small weather consulting business. The variety of Minnesota's weather tests all of a meteorologist's skills, so Ron thinks this is a great place to work!
