Anchors

Jeanette Trompeter

Jeanette Trompeter is a reporter and anchor for WCCO-TV.   You can see her daily on our 5 p.m. newscast and check out some of the hot spots she's found in our state on "Finding Minnesota" Sunday nights at 10.

She came to WCCO-TV in April 2005 from KCCI-TV (CBS) in Des Moines, Iowa, where she anchored the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts.

Jeanette was born and raised in Capitola, Calif., which is located in the Monterey Bay area, near Santa Cruz. She started reporting in high school, where she worked on the school newspaper.

Jeanette attended Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo and majored in broadcast journalism. While in college, she reported for the campus radio station and a local FM station.

Also in college, Jeanette worked as a weekend weathercaster at KSBY-TV in San Luis Obispo. She started working full time after graduation and during her time there she also worked as a writer, producer and reporter.

During her stint in Des Moines, Jeanette was a host for Better Homes and Garden's nationally syndicated home show. She was able to travel across the country, introducing viewers to vacation spots, chefs, trends and styles of various regions of the country.

Jeanette is a big animal lover and tries to educate people about preventing animal cruelty. After adopting a dog confiscated from the raid of an Iowa puppy mill, Jeanette became active in trying to educate the public about the existence of puppy mills throughout the Midwest, including how to spot them, report them and avoid getting an animal from any questionable breeder.

Jeanette recommends asking questions about where any animal is coming from and advises against buying from someone hesitant to let you come see their facilities. Also, reputable breeders should be more than willing to provide health histories and backgrounds of their animals. Most of all, she encourages anyone to check out their local rescue league or similar facility for dogs that need homes if you are simply looking for a pet and companion.

Jeanette has also been very active in the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Des Moines' Race For The Cure. Her best friend died at a young age from breast cancer and Jeanette works hard to educate women of all ages to take charge of their own health, do regular self-examinations and insist on early mammograms from your doctor.   As part of a special report on mammograms she took viewers along on her first one.   It wasn't the plan, but when doctors spotted something suspicious on her films, she let the camera's follow her through the biopsy process, and thankfully the news that the biopsy was benign.  Jeanette says it was further proof to her that women shouldn't wait until they are 40 to get their first mammogram.

Jeanette loves any activity near water, and spends a lot of time around Minnesota's lakes.    She also likes to golf, snow ski and travel.
