Reporters
Jason DeRusha
Jason DeRusha's life has changed considerably since he joined the WCCO-TV news team as a general assignment reporter in April 2003.
He was the first television reporter on the scene and on the air at the 35W bridge collapse. He's covered flash flooding, tornadoes, and school shootings. His blog and videoblog have become local hot-spots, with one blogger calling Jason "the poster boy of the Minneapolis nerd herd."
But the biggest change has been at home; Jason and his wife Alyssa now have two sons, both are Minnesota natives.
Before coming to WCCO-TV, Jason spent three years as a reporter at WISN-TV in Milwaukee. Prior to that, he anchored the weekend news at KWQC-TV in Davenport, Iowa, reported for WREX-TV in Rockford, Illinois, and interned at "ABC World News Tonight" in New York.
Jason's been nominated for 10 Regional Emmy Awards, and he won the 2004 Regional Emmy Award for On-Going Feature Series. In 2007, he won the National Outstanding Media Award from FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) for his work with that organization.
In the Twin Cities, Jason serves on the Board of Governors of the National Television Academy. He also spends time mentoring future broadcasters.
Jason's a glass art collector, and he's been a judge for the Uptown Art Fair. He's also tried to blow a couple glass art pieces, with limited success.
A proud graduate of Marquette University (magna cum laude), Jason lives in Maple Grove with his wife Alyssa (a Wayzata High graduate), sons Seth and Sam and their dog, Baxter.
